Oscar Health was founded in 2012. The idea for a technology-driven insurance company emerged after Josh Kushner (Kushner), a Harvard alumnus and founder of a venture capital firm Thrive Capital, hurt his ankle and was frustrated by the fact that his medical information and history were not available to those treating him. While the insurance company was catering to his needs and preferences, he could not get a clear explanation about his health condition. Later, when he got his bill, he could not understand it and his doubts were left unanswered.
